What is the AP Statistics exam format?
The exam format includes 40 multiple-choice questions and 6 free response questions. The exam is broken down weight-wise with 50% being allotted to the multiple choice section and 50% allotted to free response questions.. Students are allotted 90 minutes to complete the multiple-choice section and 90 minutes to complete the free response section. To make sure you’re prepared enough to finish in time, take a look through our free AP Statistics study guide that covers the most important material you should know.
How do I study for AP Statistics?
You’ve likely covered a lot of material during your course this year, but to get a 5 on the AP exam, it’s important you understand how often each topic shows up. Once you take a look through the breakdown below, make sure to read through the AP Statistics study guide above with all the key points you should know for each unit.
What units are on AP Statistics?
Unit 1: Introduction to One-Variable Data Exploration
In this unit, you will learn how statisticians analyze variation and represent data. You will also learn how to describe distributions and draw conclusions using theoretical distributions.
Unit 2: Two-Variable Data Exploration
Building on what you learned in Unit 1, this unit focuses on representing and comparing two-variable data. You will learn how to describe relationships between variables and make predictions using models.
Unit 3: Introduction to Data Collection
This unit introduces study design, with a focus on the importance of randomization. You will learn how to interpret the results of well-designed studies and draw appropriate conclusions.
Unit 4: Probability, Random Variables, and Distributions
Unit 4 covers the fundamentals of probability and introduces probability distributions, which are key to statistical inference.
Unit 5: Sampling Distributions
In this unit, you will develop an understanding of sampling distributions, which form the basis for estimating population characteristics and determining confidence levels.
Unit 6: Inference for Categorical Data: Proportions
Unit 6 focuses on inference procedures for categorical variables. You will build a solid understanding of statistical inference, a concept that will be further explored throughout the course.
Unit 7: Inference for Quantitative Data: Means
Building on Unit 6, this unit dives into analyzing quantitative data to make inferences about population means.
Unit 8: Inference for Categorical Data: Chi-Square
Unit 8 introduces chi-square tests, which are used when working with two or more categorical variables.
Unit 9: Inference for Quantitative Data: Slopes
In this unit, you will learn that the slope of a regression model is not necessarily the true slope but is based on a single sample from a sampling distribution. You will also learn how to construct confidence intervals and perform significance tests for this slope.
