SCIENCE TEST

Isotope- an atom that has the same amount of protons but a different amount of neutrons

Subatomic atoms - protons neutrons and electrons

Electrostatic attraction -The force of attraction is between two oppositely charged particles (Occurs between protons and electrons)

Electrostatic repulsion –The force between particles that have the same charge(Occurs between protons and in the nucleus)

Left side - the side of the metals in the periodic table

Right side - non metals side of the periodic table

Atom - a fundamental  building block of matter molecule

Crystal lattice - a grid like structure they contains either ions or atom

Compound- a substance made up of more then one type of atom

element - substance made up of one type of atom

alloy - a metal combined with a small amount of other elements

allotrope - a pure element in different forms eg. carbon

anion - negative ion

cation - positive ion

proton - positive charge atom

electron - negative charge atom

Neutron - no charge atom

Properties of Non Metal - are brittle ,dull ,low melting point

Properties of Metal - Shiny, malleable, ductile, dense

Ductile - can ben stretched into wires.

dense - atoms tightly packetted and sink in water

alkali - a base that is dissolved into water

base - Substance that releases hydroxide

Acid - Substance that releases hydrogen ions

polyatomic ions- have more than one type of atom

Monatomic ions - made of one type of atom

Metalloids- Semi metals, act like non- metals but share some metal properties

Valency- the charge of an ion

Electron rings - 2, 8, 8, 2

Molecule - a cluster of atoms that make up elements or compounds
