Delhi Public School, Indore Mathematics Class 5 Summary of Concepts

  • Worksheet Title: Mixed Bag Worksheet

Key Vocabulary in Arithmetic:

  1. Addition:
       - The numbers which are added are called addends.

  2. Result of Addition:
       - The result of addition is called the sum.

  3. Subtraction:
       - The number which is subtracted from minuend is called the subtrahend.

  4. Result of Subtraction:
       - The result of subtraction is called the difference.

  5. Next Number After Addition:
       - When 1 is added to a number, we get the next number which is called the successor of the number.

  6. Previous Number After Subtraction:
       - When 1 is subtracted from a number, we get the previous number which is called the predecessor of the number.

Numerical Operations:

  1. Difference of Numbers:
       - The difference between the greatest 8-digit number (99999999) and the smallest 5-digit number (10000) is:
    9999999910000=9998999999999999 - 10000 = 99989999.

  2. Multiplication Example:
       - $456 imes 1000 = 456000$.

  3. Commutative Property of Multiplication:
       - $259 imes 596 = 596 imes 259$.

  4. Product of Numbers:
        - The product of the greatest 5-digit number (99999) and the smallest 2-digit number (10) is:
    99999imes10=99999099999 imes 10 = 999990.

Basic Arithmetic Operations:

  1. Addition Example:
        - $3,59,875 + ext{(to be added)}$.

  2. Division by Zero:
        - $0 imes 10,005 = 0$.
          - Note: Division of zero by any non-zero number results in zero.

  3. Average Calculation:
        - The average of the numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, & 50 is:
         ext{Average} = rac{10 + 20 + 30 + 40 + 50}{5} = 30.

Factors and Properties:

  1. Universal Factor:
        - 1 is a factor of every number.

  2. Factors of a Number:
        - Every number is a factor of itself.

  3. Nature of Factors:
        - Factors of a number are limited (a finite number of factors).

  4. Prime Numbers:
        - A number which has only 2 factors (1 and itself) is called a prime number.

  5. Composite Numbers:
        - Numbers which have more than 2 factors are called composite numbers.
