Gamification

Gamification

Gamification is applying the typical elements of game playing like point scoring, competition with others, and rules of play. There are things on “WHY” and “HOW” to apply these things effectively.

On “WHY” Part

The purpose of having Gamification is:

  • Motivating the users of who do the gamification to increase outcome on what they are trying to achieve.

  • Boost Motivation.

  • Increase Learning.

On “HOW” Part

Having things like point scoring, competition with others, and rules of play inside the product makes Gamification exist. But there are things to make it even better.

A good Gamification cannot have too much anxiety which makes people think that it is too hard to get used to it so they leave the element. At the same time the Gamification cannot focus too much on fun, otherwise the element will be boring and people at a certain time will stop doing the element.

Gamification does not necessarily have to be fixed following standart or anything, it just must have to focus on the objective on why the Gamification is being made. Also, it is focused on fun, not education.

Game Based Learning

Game based learning is where game characteristics and principles are embedded within learning. The purpose of it is education, but it is delivered through games. It uses the phenomenon of the real world and puts this element in the game for the learning part.

This Game Based Learning thing is fully focused on gaining new skill/learning through game, thus the objective is specific that it must be keen towards teaching. The element to be added is the repetition so that the people who use it memorize the learning part by seeing or doing things over and over.

Just because the name is Game Based Learning does not mean it cannot be having Gamification. It can in fact.

Since the scope is so limited for learning purpose, it makes this thing quite hard to market.
