Exam #4
Exam #4
1- DNA: double stranded( Helix), deoxyribose, A-T and G-C, it provides genetic instruction for living things and viruses.
2- RNA: tRNA- transport of RNA, rRNA- make ribosomes subunits, mRNA- transcript for protein synthesis/ copies DNA.
3- terminology: cell cycle; life cycle of a dividing cell. diploid- contains two complete copies (2n)of each chromosomes. one from each parent.
*46 and 23*
4- exocytosis: exit the cell; endocytosis: entering the cell
5- isotonic: equal solute of water (homeostasis); hypotonic: low solute to high solute water enters cell making the cell swell; hypertonic: high solute to low solute, water exits the cell causing the cell to shrink. if the cell does not have homeostasis then the cell will die.
* osmosis is the movement of water across concentration gradient through semipermeable membrane to achieve equilibrium*
6- active site: the part of the enzyme where the substrate binds.
*cells are connected by hydrogen bonds*
