- dependent on these cycles for fresh water, removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, uptake of exess soil nitrogen, and provision of phosphate. 

- When human activities interfere with these natural cycles environmetnal consequences happen such as an excess amount of pollutants that are harmful to us.

- If not for decomposition, waste would soon cover the entire surface of our planet. therfore we build sewage treament plants.
